Fall is more than a time of year; it is a mindset. It is the season of relaxing and indulging. For our ancestors, “Sweater Weather” signified the harvest. It was when the rest of the year's hard work finally paid off.

This feeling, of what Fall means, has transcended into the modern-day. Especially after we all have endured so much in 2020, we owe ourselves a season of exhales and comfort. As a parent, I am constantly concerned with how our children have had to adjust. Part of being a good parent is giving them security and consistency. The events from this past year have made providing these things especially hard.

Yet, you may consider this an opportunity to solidify their home as a true sanctuary. As the days grow shorter and the air grows cooler, relish in the sacred season. Create a home aesthetic that lets them know, it’s all going to be ok.

It's "Sweater Weather" – weighted blanket by Bearaby
Nothing offers more immediate comfort than a heavy warm blanket. There is a reason we call them security blankets. Weighted blankets, in particular, have been a proven treatment for anxiety for many years. After this year, I’m sure we can all use some home relaxation therapy.

It seems like such an inconsequential item, but a good blanket can last generations. My family’s favorite heirloom is my Great Grandmother’s old heavy knit blanket. I have carried it all over the world with me. Now, I can tuck my little boy in it, and watch all the tension melt away behind sleepy eyes.

If you don’t already have that special blanket, I have found a few wonderfully well-rounded options for you.

WEighted Blankets

Nappling by Bearaby. Not only makes gorgeous, weighted blankets, but they do it with no artificial fillers. Their blankets are available in weights from 8lbs to 25lbs.

Crystal Weighted Blanket by Sunday Citizen. While they typically get their density from glass pearls, this weighted blanket is also filled with thousands of pieces of Clear Quartz, Rose Quartz and Amethyst that harness natural healing energy and make you feel amazing. Here's to waking up feeling like a million bucks, mama.

Gravity Kids by Gravity Blankets. Using the power of weight to relax the nervous system, Gravity is scientifically-proven to help people fall asleep faster and sleep more deeply. Made to be a lighter weight and smaller dimensions than our adult blanket, with an easy-to-clean cover.

Plush Blankets

Bamboni by Saranoni. These blankets are perfect personal blankets for the kids. They are light and soft, ideal for wrapping up like a little burrito on the couch. They come in a huge variety of colors, with sizes for newborns, toddlers, or adults.

Casablanca Throw by Sunday Citizen. Made with two layers of our signature snug fabric blend to keep you warm and super chill (metaphorically speaking). Soft-to-the-touch fabric in pretty, earthy colors contrasted with white creates a blanket that decorates and makes you feel oh so warm and delicious. It's also hypoallergenic, so safe for all skin types.

Chenille Baby Blanket by Little Giraffe. Designed to keep baby cozy and warm, this snuggly blanket features soft faux fur and comes trimmed with a matching satin picture-frame edge for a fashionable finish. 100% chenille.

FAmily Heirlooms

Patchwork Quilt by LittleBCottonShoppe. If passing down that iconic family fall quilt is the tradition, you’re ready to start, Etsy has endless custom quilt variations. I especially like this one. This handmade quilt features a modern patchwork design using pinstripe and sweet sentiments.

Initial & Blocks by Butterscotch Blankees. This is a sophisticated addition to any room. The checkerboard pattern and alternating colors give way to a classic, yet timeless design that lays the finishing touch over a couch, a bed and a nursery rocker too! Ready to become your child's very own heirloom piece.

Sequoia Cotton Throw by Serena & Lily. The ultimate in coziness, this throw isn’t any ordinary layer. Expertly made by hand, it features a textural ribbed-knit design with a contrasting border. The chunky cotton yarn is wonderfully soft and has a lovely drape to it – perfect for keeping you warm on chillier days.

Fall may start with the changing of the leaves, but it doesn’t officially begin until you are wrapped in that blanket.

I have been wanting to try out a weighted blanket for years! Thank you for the recommendations. We might just be grabbing one of these for Christmas.
