We all need a cushy place to land sometimes. Nurseries and kids rooms are no exceptions. So why
not make them both soft and insanely cool? The kids rugs from the absolutely fabulous brand
Kroma Carpets
hit the spot.

Whether fluffed up near the glider, spread out in front of toy bins or gracing the crib, the
collections from Kroma Carpets finish off a space with stylish functionality.

Q&A With Co-founders MICHELLE & NATHALIE
'Making KIDS' spaces lush and plush one rug at a time'

Q: Where were you and what were you doing when you decided to create kroma carpets?

Michelle: It was 2011 and we had recently become mothers. Nathalie had her second baby, just a month before I delivered triplets. In my case, maybe it was a lack of sleep, the 28 bottles prepared daily, or having 3 babies with reflux that made practicality seep into my design aesthetic. After working in visual merchandising for many years, I had always considered myself a pretty over practical type of girl. But having three babies at once changes everything! My kids went through four rugs in one year. I wanted a safe, soft play surface for them, but for lack of better options we decided to come up with our own line!

Nathalie: My family has been in the flooring and carpet industry for the last three generations. After having my second child and Michelle having triplets, it was only a matter of time until we came up with a machine-washable line of rugs that is both beautiful and functional at the same time.

Q: What kind of products doES kroma carpet offer?

We currently have two collections of rugs. Our first line is a hand-tufted range of carpets that offers bold designs in stain and moisture-resistant materials. Our second line are faux sheepskin carpets/throws in fun shapes and colors that are ideal for the nursery and more!

Q: What qualities make your products different from other similar products?

There are a many faux sheepskin rugs/throws out there, but we took the pain-staking process of making sure this collection was machine-washable. Kids can be complicated, but taking care of their rugs shouldn't be! Our rugs can be washed in a conventional washing machine and either air-dried or placed in the air fluff setting of a home dryer. You can finish them off with a little brushing with a wet hair brush (or detangler) and voila, they're as good as new!

Q: Where can your products be found for sale other than your site?

Our products are available at specialty stores and websites including Minted Method Shop, Design Life Kids, Nini & Loli, Addison Kids as well as All Modern, Wayfair and Amazon. Kroma Carpets are also available in Canada at Le Méchant Loup.

Q: What are your own personal kid's design style?

Michelle: My triplets share a room that is designed to be fun but efficient to the last inch...literally! I combine high and low furniture pieces and décor items, all with a modern aesthetic. I have been pleasantly surprised by how my children respond to good design. They notice and love when I add new items around the house!

Nathalie: For my children I favor colorful and geometric patterns that are playful and architectural at the same time. We often host their friends over and have sleepovers, so I love modular pieces that have multiple functions!

Q: DO you have a social media style crush and/or favorite blog?

Michelle: Live Loud Girl - I'm obsessed with her kids spaces! Also Benjamin Uyeda who pens the Homemade Modern Blog with the most amazing DIY projects out there.

Nathalie: I love Design Milk and Qrator, so inspirational!

Q: Who is your go-to home furnishing or decor brand when looking for pieces for the kids' spaces?

Michelle & Nathalie: Rafa Kids for furniture, Rookie Humans for sheets, Baby Jives for décor items, there are so many! We also look for special items when we travel to bring back home for the kids,
it has really helped them develop a yearning for travel and learning about other cultures at a very young age.

Q: IF YOU ARE MOMS WORKING AND RAISING CHILDREN, HOW DO YOU FIND WORK-LIFE BALANCE? OR ARE THEY ONE IN THE SAME?

Michelle: My journey to motherhood was a rocky one, it took many years and a mountain of love and support to become pregnant and deliver my triplets. The task has not necessarily become easier with time, yet it is the most amazing aspect of my life. But it also takes a lot of sacrifice. My work balances that. I have always considered myself very lucky; I love what I do every day and I work with someone that has become like a sister to me. My work is extremely gratifying and I think that I am a better mother for it. So yes, to me, work life balance is one in the same.

Nathalie: My husband and I always try to spend quality time with the kids on the weekends. Dinner time is always sacred, and we are always planning trips together and thinking about our next adventures. The time they (the kids) spend at school is basically when we get a chance to focus on work and try to get as much done as we can. Our kids love to come to the office and fulfill orders and design for us!

Bonus question: WHAT'S NEXT FOR KROMA CARPETS?

Michelle & Nathalie: We have a new collection arriving in the next few months of printed cotton rugs in beautiful color combinations. We are so excited to be working with new materials and styles!
