HOW TO DO NORDIC

6/10/2016

Sometimes things that look simple or basic are the hardest things to recreate. That could be said for creating a truly authentic looking Nordic space. It's easy to think that just because something is black or white that it equals a Nordic look, but that isn't quite true.

The good news is the rules for styling a cool Nordic nursery or kids room are rather straight forward and we call them out for you in seven rules to get it just right!

1. Color Palette

Color Palette: The focus on color for all fixtures, furnishings, bedding and decor should be black and white. This might sound challenging for a baby’s room, but there is so many great items out there in this monochromatic coloring currently at IKEA, The Land Of Nod and Pottery Barn Kids. Favorite Boutique shops Design Life Kids, Jelanie Shop and Olli+Lime

2. Texture

Texture: Look to bring in something wooden, typically a light tan wood such as birch. This could silly be the legs of a crib or picture frames. It doesn’t mean you need to install an entire new hardwood floor.

3. Layering

Layering : Because we are talking about a Nordic look and the cold climate from where it hales consider pulling in textiles that keep you warm, leather, fur, wool etc. Of course faux leather and faux fur are perfect for example a faux leather pouf or a wool storage bin.

4. Clean Lines

Clean Lines : The key common factor are clean lines to all furniture and fixtures. Look for pieces that have minimal details and simple shapes.

5. Pop of Color

Pop of Color : The Nordic look while simple and clean is also playful and being playing with color is where you can bring in some childish whimsy. These are pieces that could hint at the sex of the baby or still remain neutral. Trying bringing in a bright decor pillow, crib sheet or mobile.

6. Graphic Prints

Graphic Prints : You’ll find them on everything from bedding to wall decals to framed art

7. Touch of Whimsy

Touch of Whimsy: Don't forget to add a bright spot into this monochromatic look. A splash of humor can be brought into this simple style maybe through a silly throw pillow, bedding or framed wall art with a cheeky saying.
